We chose a dramatic stone fireplace with a slate hearth as the primary focal point of the room for Bennett & Marissa's baby shower. To add impact, we created this easy hand-made floral hanging for the front of the mantle.
What you'll need:
1 Sturdy Branch or length of wood app. 1-2" diameter in your preferred length
1 Roll Thin Flexible Wire
Artificial Vines or Trailing Plants
1 Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
1 Square of Tin Foil to set your glue gun on
I bought all of these artificial trailing greens at a second hand shop for about $10. I also raided my box of miscellaneous florals to find some random flowers that matched our color scheme. Faux florals can be very expensive! If you have time it is worth it to visit some second hand stores and begin collecting floral items a soon as possible.
I harvested a sturdy tree branch that was about an inch thick and relatively straight from my yard, but you could also use a broom stick cut to size. Wrap your branch or wood in thin, flexible wire and tuck the florals under the wire. Continue to wire more of the greens on until you have the look you want.
Using the ever important glue gun, add some random flowers. We hung our branch on the mantle, but if you don't have a fireplace, you could just as easily achieve the same effect by hanging it on a wall or suspending it behind a dessert table.
This one was made and hung about 4 weeks before the Baby Shower, so it was one of the first things I was able to cross off of my lengthy list. Check!
When the fresh flowers arrived on the day of the Baby Shower, we added a spray of lovely fresh pink peonies in the center for a pop of color and fragrance.
